The Biggest Party of the Year!

What Are You Reading Lately?
I’m not exactly inquiring about the latest NY Times Bestseller; although I have been searching for a new novel to pick up. The reading I’d like to learn more about is my blood pressure reading. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had my blood pressure read and not once have I taken the time to figure out what that number translates to or what it means to have high blood pressure; until now. My sudden interest in learning about my blood pressure was sparked by World Health Day.
This year, World Health Day falls on Sunday, April 7th, 2013 and the theme is high blood pressure. As a contributor to heart disease and affecting 1 in 3 adults worldwide, having high blood pressure increases your risk of heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure; and if left uncontrolled, can also cause blindness, irregular heartbeat, and even heart failure.1 These are all alarming facts, but the good news is that in most cases high blood pressure can be prevented.
High blood pressure is also known as the “silent killer,” because those who suffer from it rarely show symptoms. For that reason, the first thing you should do is get a blood pressure reading and understand what the numbers mean. Your blood pressure is a measurement of the how strongly your blood presses against your arterial walls as it is pumped around the frame of your heart. According to the World Health Organization, blood pressure is considered to be high if it is above 130/80 mmHg. The top number in the reading measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats and the bottom number measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart is resting between beats.
If you know that you are above 130/88 mmHg, don’t panic. There as variety of ways to reduce blood pressure. The World Health Organization suggests the following lifestyle changes:
• Eating healthy
• Exercising Regularly; sedentary lifestyles and obesity increase high blood pressure risks
• Stopping smoking
• Reducing alcohol consumption
• Managing stress

Youngevity Welcomes The One, The Only Mr. John Fogg!
When it comes to MLM, John Milton Fogg, also known as the “Napoleon Hill of Network Marketing,” is a legend in the industry. He’s been in the profession as a writer, editor and international speaker for more than 25 years. John is the co-founder of Upline magazine, NetworkMarketing Lifestyles and Networking Times; and also the creator of the Upline Masters Weekends. He is the author/editor of more than 24 books, two of which have sold over one-million copies each, including his classic “The Greatest Networker in the World.”

Sleep is Underrated
“Sleep is overrated.” “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” I know I’ve used these phrases many times in my life. Well, the funny thing is, not getting enough sleep could in fact destroy your health. I realize that we all have to forgo a good night’s sleep for a variety of reasons on occasion, whether it’s a work deadline or a family emergency. But making a habit of not getting enough sleep is where the problem arises. Poor sleeping habits puts you at risk for a wide range of health problems, on top of not providing you with the energy you need during the day to stay focused and energized, and creating a more than unfavorable environment for your nutrition and exercise plan.
In this day and age, being a part of a society that is always on the go, many of us have become accustomed to only sleeping 4 or 5 hours a night and waking up to a cup of coffee, followed by sometimes 2 or 3 more cups throughout the day. I’ve been there. I was doing fine until I began to see the effects. My body wasn’t burning off the calories the way it used to. I was becoming moody, making unhealthy choices, and running my body down. Fortunately, the effects that my body was seeing were minimal compared to the many other risks that sleep deprivation can have on one’s health.
I recently read an article on www.huffingtonpost.com outlining the most frightening effects of sleep deprivation. Researchers found that after one week of too little sleep, there were more than 700 genetic changes that could have major consequences on your health. According to the article “Sleep Deprivation Effects: 8 Scary Side Effects of Too Little Shut-Eye,” poor sleep has been linked to an increase in stroke risk, can lead to obesity, could increase your diabetes risk as well as your cancer risk, can contribute to osteoporosis, fuels memory loss, and can produce chemicals and hormones that lead to heart disease. All of these alarming side effects could significantly decrease your lifespan.
What exactly is enough sleep? According to the National Sleep Foundation, the average adult needs 7-9hours of sleep for optimal health. This may be standard for some of us and outlandish for others. Even if we do decide we want to make an attempt of being healthy and sleeping more, a lot of us have a hard time getting good sleep due to an inability to fall asleep or stay asleep.
